Debunked: The One is not Created - He Comes About on His Own
This debunk assumes you already understand the Matrix System as well as the Conversation between Neo and the Architect.
When Neo speaks to the Architect, the Architect says to Neo early in the conversation:
Your life is the sum of a remainder of an unbalanced equation inherent to the programming of the Matrix. You are the eventuality of an anomaly, which, despite my sincerest efforts, I have been unable to eliminate from what is otherwise a harmony of mathematical precision. While it remains a burden assiduously avoided, it is not unexpected, and thus not beyond a measure of control. Which has led you, inexorably... here. |
All of the underlined words above make it sound to some people like Neo is born the way he is as a result of the "nature" of the Matrix, even if the Architect tries to prevent it. However, the words can be taken a completely different way. Read the statement again under a different assumption: that Neo was purposely created by Machines as the only possible solution that will actually solve the problem.
Yes, the statement and many other statements in the conversation can be read both ways. But one statement later in the conversation cannot! There is one and only one way to read this statement:
Your 5 predecessors were, by design, based on a similar predication - a contingent affirmation that was meant to create a profound attachment to the rest of your species, facilitating the function of the One. |
Neo was designed. Period.
More Clues
Here are additional clues that indicate the One is purposefully designed by Machines:
- Perception of time - Neo isn't just a superior hacker. "His neural-kinetics are way off the charts." He can think and perceive time like a machine, and this was discovered before Neo believed he was the One. No other human could move like an Agent. This perception of small time intervals is what I believe enables him to communicate with the Source. As seen in Matrix Comix: Goliath, this incredible perception of time doesn't happen on accident - it happens by design.
- "You've got the gift..." [Oracle in M1] - If we take the Oracle literally, it means exactly what it says: Neo has something that he was given. In other words, mathematics and random chance cannot account for giving Neo what he has, nor would Neo's determination and hatred of authority constitute a "gift." The Oracle could have easily said, "ability," but apparently she felt the need say a little more about his abilities.
- Architect Watches Neo - In M1, when Neo was being interrogated by the Agents, we see Neo through one of the Architect's television sets, clearly telling us that the Architect is already watching Neo. If the One is accidentally created by random chance, how was the Architect able to identify Neo as the One before any of his abilities developed? And why did it just so happen that Neo was working for a company owned by the Merovingian - is that total coincidence? (See the March 30, 2006 edition of The Sentinel, the Matrix Online bluepill newspaper).
- Anomaly Summation - How would "summation" of the anomaly occur, if not deliberately by the Prime Program? Is there an anomaly summation phantom running around in the Matrix? Is there some computer science theory that I'm not aware of that states all errors in a computer system will eventually all gather neatly in one single memory segment of the computer's RAM? (Remember, Thomas Anderson is a small "neuron" in the Matrix "brain," according to Matrix Comics: Goliath.)
